Friends, let’s talk about cheese balls. They’re practically essential over the holidays, am I right? When I was growing up, every family gathering throughout the holidays required one or two of the delicious Kaukauna® Spreadable Cheese Balls alongside an assortment of crackers. Now as the mother of my own family, I add the traditional Kaukauna® Cheese Balls to my menu when I entertain for the holidays. This year is their 100 year anniversary, which inspired me to share how my family enjoys our favorite cheese.
My local Meijer carries a variety of flavors and while I grab my two favorites: Smoky Bacon and Sharp Cheddar, I also grab a box of crackers that I transform into these Easy Holiday Crackers for my guests.
To make these Easy Holiday Crackers, I simply start with a bowl of our favorite crackers. Any favorite cracker could be used here like oyster crackers or saltines, these are just the kind we prefer.
In a smaller bowl, I whisk together some canola oil, Ranch mix, powdered garlic, and black pepper.
I pour the Ranch mixture over the crackers in the larger bowl and use a spatula to gently toss the crackers to coat them in the mixture.
Then I spread the crackers out over a sheet of parchment paper to dry. Any leftover Ranch mix, I drizzle over the tops of the crackers.
I plate these crackers on a large serving dish with my Kaukauna® Sharp Cheddar Cheese Ball displayed proudly in the center. The cheese ball is so beautiful, I always have just the tiniest hint of regret cutting it, but that guilt quickly disappears as I devour the delicious cheese on one, okay several, of my Easy Holiday Crackers.

This is a big year for Kaukauna®, turning 100 years young and all! Kaukauna® cheeses have were created and have always been produced right here in the Midwest in the cheese capital of the world: Wisconsin. Kaukauna® was started in 1918 by Hubert Fassbender way up near Green Bay and Appleton. He started a distribution company that ultimately became the Kaukauna® Cheese Company. He had a mission to create a cold-pack cheese that would be ideal for spreading on crackers and bread, what an honorable fellow, right? Bringing delicious cheese to the masses! At the time he also was distributing Wisconsin’s other signature item beer. His customers who owned taverns and clubs wondered if he had anything their patrons could snack on. So he went to work and figured out how to make a spreadable, cold-pack cheese using whey solids and powered milk. People loved it. It caught on at country clubs and supper clubs and even still graces many a supper club table across Wisconsin. Supper clubs were and still are an experience that brings people together for great food, great drinks and great conversation and connecting. Sounds suspiciously like my home, ha! - 16 ounce box crackers
- 1/2 cup canola oil
- 1 package ranch dressing mix
- 3 tablespoons powdered garlic
- 1 tablespoons red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup green onion, chopped (garnish)
- 1 Kaukauna® Sharp Cheddar Cheeseball
- Place crackers in a large bowl.
- In a smaller bowl, whisk together oil, Ranch mix, and red pepper flakes.
- Pour Ranch mixture over crackers and use spatula to toss and coat.
- Transfer crackers to parchment paper to dry.
- Serve with chopped green onion to garnish.
- Enjoy with Kaukauna® cheese ball varieties.
